Mary Lester

Mary Lester graduated from Michigan State University with a major in Biological Science.  She taught science for 28 years for a variety of schools completing her teaching career at Comstock Public Schools.

Mary has been showing dogs since the 1970’s, and discovered her passion for Weimaraners in 1981. She and her late husband, Paul, founded Palimar Weimaraners now located in Richland, Michigan. She and her family are strict hobby breeders who thrive on showcasing their dogs’ talents across many disciplines including conformation, obedience, agility, rally, and nose work.  But their main focus is on producing dogs that excel at Field Trials along with hunt and rating tests. The results of her careful breeding program have earned Mary the AKC Breeder of Merit distinction.

Mary is currently on the boards of the Kalamazoo Kennel Club, The Third Leg Club, and secretary of the Southern Michigan Weimaraner Club. She is an obedience instructor for the Kalamazoo Kennel Club.

Mary’s interest in opening a warm water swim facility came through her frustration in being told that her Weimaraner, Corky, should be swimming on a regular basis due to a shoulder injury. Seasonal swimming in lakes or backyard pools did not meet Corky’s need for year around non-weight bearing exercise. When Beth Yerrick proposed they team up and open their own facility, Mary’s agreement was instantaneous. She became a Certified WaterWork Practitioner, maintains certification in Pet First Aid/CPR and is a member of the IAAMB/AWT.
